Unsponsored- Quince French Linen Duvet Cover Set-From $129.90

I know it’s been more than a couple months since I wrote my last blog post, but I figured I’d do a lot more Quince reviews because it seems like the review on the Quince cashmere sweaters were such a hit! ! It’s still a baby brand and while people are slowly discovering them, they’re largely under the radar. I plan to review a lot more of their stuff since you guys seem interested, but for today here’s my thoughts on the French Linen Duvet Cover set. :) Just to be clear, this isn’t sponsored content but I did use some credits to cover part of the cost!

Performance/Style:

This is my very first time buying linen bedding so unfortunately I won’t be able to compare to other brands like Brooklinen and Casper even though I’ve done a lot of research on the topic. Overall, linen bedding is so popular because of its durability, antibacterial+breathability+moisture-wicking properties, and natural+crisp undone aesthetic it gives to the look to the room. My husband is a hot sleeper, so I bought this set as a gift for his birthday. What I got was Twin version in white for $129.90. There aren’t too many reviews, but everyone seemed to like it and praised its quality and a couple people mentioned its softness.

Once it arrived, I couldn’t wait and gave my husband the gift early. In general, linen is supposed to get softer with more use and washing, so I washed it and immediately applied the cover before rolling around in it. It has the typical button closure and corner ties, anchoring down the comforter so it doesn’t bunch up too unevenly while you sleep. First impression that both my husband and I thought was: “Dang this is ROUGH. Literally.” In my head I was just thinking, “this is so uncomfortable, it feels like I’m rolling in glorified burlap or something. Did I make a mistake? Is all linen bedding like this?” I wasn’t expecting it to be silky or anything like that, but I definitely had an expectation that it would be softer than this. Fast forward a month later, thankfully the linen really did soften dramatically with use, and was noticeably breathable which my husband was happy with. On hot days I found myself stealing my husband’s comforter and being so surprised that even at the mere touch linen is so cooling! As for the 2 pillowcases, while it’s cute to have matching bedding, even with use the linen was still too abrasive for my face (I’m a side sleeper) and I much prefer my silk pillowcases as it reduces friction on the hair and skin. To be honest, I don’t really think I’d use it again.

Aesthetic-wise, I looove the look of linen bedding. Sure, maybe easily wrinkled but that doesn’t bother me. It looks crisp and clean and doubles as a great backdrop for beauty products as well, haha.

***Update 11/27/20: I bought a second linen duvet cover because it’s a really nice pairing with down comforters during the winter! It facilitates a breathable warmth instead of a hot, stuffy one. The fabric really does soften more and more over time, and I’m still a huge fan, even more than before.

Verdict:

First of all, out of all the luxury linen bedding brands out there, Quince for sure has best pricing (see below). Though I didn’t have the best first impression, the linen softened over time and is something I’d personally only get 1 set of specifically for summer use. It’s worth the money because linen is such a durable material and will last you a lifetime! If you’re considering purchasing the set, I’d recommend just going for the duvet cover and save your money on the pillowcases because it’s just a bit uncomfortable and rough on facial skin. And tip: For the wintertime this makes a great pairing with down comforters so it’s a more breathable warmth instead of a stuffy one. I asked for my husband’s opinion and he told me

- He’s glad the linen softened over time, but cotton is still softer. Not mind-blowing, but still.

-He did report feeling way cooler with use of the linen compared to cotton.

-Because of these two factors, my husband liked both cotton and linen equally because they have different benefits.

Price Comparisons of similar products:

Brooklinen: $229.50 for full duvet cover (don’t offer twin), $66 per pillowcases

Parachute: $289 for 1 Duvet, 1 pillowcase

Target Casaluna: $99 for Full/Queen 1 Duvet Cover, 2 Shams (Note this isn’t 100% linen, but instead a linen BLEND.) Heard great reviews on these, and perhaps is a great middle ground if you’re not the biggest fan of 100% linen texture.
