Glossier Wowder-Retail $22

There have been so much hype over Glossier's products this past year. The brand focuses on natural skincare & makeup focusing on the "skincare first" philosophy. While I love the brand's philosophy and their commitment to develop products by listening to their customers, I personally only like a few of their products. And trust me, I've tried almost every single product they have so far. I'll also compare this to the famous Bareminerals mineral veil at the end. So let's jump to it.

Packaging:

This packaging showcases Glossier's typical light pink color on the cap. I'm not a huge fan of the superhero-like logo or the cheesy name, but it's not a big deal to me. Inside (see image) is a built-in mesh that dispenses the product easily.

Performance:

To start off, I've always liked natural makeup. "Natural makeup" can be so subjective that natural to me may mean something totally different to you. So I'm just going to start out by saying I like minimal makeup. Most days I don't wear makeup, but when I do, I tend to use a light hand and would hate to look caked face. For foundation and powders I want it to look like skin, but more evened out and obviously not greasy looking.

So in a powder, I want it to look semi-matte, minimal but still keep my foundation put and grease at bay. The wowder has an innovative mesh applicator which I prefer over the bareminerals mineral veil. With mineral veil, it's difficult to control the product when you carefully dump some and swirl it in the cap. All I do with the wowder is slightly dip my brush in the mesh, then tap off the excess. Because...everyone knows that once you put too much powder on, there's no undoing it!

While applying, I was surprised to see that it didn't make me look 100% flat like the mineral veil did.  It didn't make me look cake faced, and a little did go a long way. I typically wear it for 8 hours, and I must say that when it wears off it wears off nicely. No uneven wear-off or creasing! Some shine does come through, but honestly it just looks like skin.

One of the most oily parts of my face are my eyelids. Seriously, I use urban decay's primer potion, and that's not even enough to keep my eyeshadow from creasing! So before eyeshadow application I set my eyelids with Wowder after eye primer, and it not only keeps the oil from seeping through but also serves as a nice base for eyeshadow to sit on top of.

Verdict:

At the end of the day, I would recommend Wowder for $22. The Bareminerals Mineral Veil is $23 for slightly more product (0.3oz) but the ease of application and importance of not looking too one-dimensional makes me reach for the Wowder way more. The performance of Wowder are true to all the claims that Glossier makes. Controls shine, no chalky film (sheer), won't flatten skin's texture.

Even for $22, that's not bad! But you could get even more of a discount if you sign up for their emails they'll give you 20% off and free shipping. You can also click this link and get 10% off your order. Unfortunately, Glossier doesn't often have sales but will occasionally free shipping. For black Friday this year they offered 20% off and free shipping, so it seems like that's the most they'll offer.
