dpHUE Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse: Retail $35

It seems like Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is the newest hot and upcoming ingredient on the market. In terms of beauty, ACV boasts to be a natural toner, astringent, and according to dpHUE, ACV acts as a natural cleanser for the hair and scalp. This ACV hair rinse boasts to replace your shampoo AND conditioner without over-stripping your hair (oils and color) but at the same time being an effective cleanser. I got this in my Fabfitfun subscription box, and I've never heard of this brand before, so this product really got my attention. There weren't many reviews on this product a couple months ago, so I really had no idea what to expect.

Performance:

OK, so the biggest question is: "How do I even use this thing? Is it actually going to replace my shampoo and conditioner?" I'll answer the second question later, but I really did have to read the directions before using this. This is used on wet hair, and in the shower I part my hair in different regions and apply the product using the pointed nozzle down the entirety of my scalp. Then, when I think I have applied enough, I'll really work the product into my scalp and then add a tiny bit more onto the rest of my hair. This smells very strongly of ACV! Once I've done my best to work it in all over, I'll leave it in for a minute or so and then rinse it out thoroughly. This formula does have a slight slip to it, but will not lather so don't expect it to! (Trust me, I really love that satisfying thick lather. Thankfully the bottle forewarned me not to expect it).

Sadly, this only really worked for me the very first time. After the first wash & dry, (with no conditioner applied afterward) surprisingly my hair felt really clean! I was shocked and couldn't believe that one product replaced my shampoo. I thought I've found a holy grail. But to my dismay, my hopes were dashed to the ground when the rest of the times of use I didn't have the same luck. I gave the product the benefit of the doubt the next couple washes and thought maybe I used too much the second time, but every time afterward I tried to make sure I didn't use too much/too little and made sure to rinse it out thoroughly, I still didn't get the same effect as the first time. Subsequent washes afterward left my hair and scalp feeling heavier, sticker than normal and obviously easily-dirty, making me feel like I needed to wash my hair more often. Even now that I've finished the entire bottle, I still can't figure out why it worked SO well the first time and didn't all the other times. So in short, this did not replace neither my shampoo nor conditioner.

Verdict

Not worth the money. It's a very innovative product, but honestly I just couldn't get this to work. It left my hair sticky and easily-greasy, so that's a definite no-no. If this had worked and replaced my shampoo and conditioner, I think I'd be more willing to spend $35 every now and then on this.

Save Some $:

If you did want to try this still, dpHUE often has deals, and recently I've seen a BOGO deal on this product. But otherwise, I haven't tried any other products similar to this. So whatever shampoos and conditioners that you're currently loving, keep using it! Will update you guys if I find something good (which is actually very soon).

I'd really love to hear your thoughts if you've used this before! Did it work out? Did you love it or hate it?

And for those of you guys who haven't used this before, does this intrigue you? What do you think about this ACV trend going on?
