Urban Decay Backtalk Palette-$46

About a month ago, I won this palette from one of my favorite Youtuber Serein Wu's giveaway. I literally have so many palettes that I could never justifying buying a new one, so this was definitely a great addition to my collection. I didn't have anything like it since I naturally gravitate toward more natural matte shades, and this one is obviously a very pink-toned palette.

Performance:

Packaging: Love this packaging. It's not as slim as the other UD palettes, but it's made of hard, durable cardboard-y material and includes a unique detatchable magnetic mirror insert in the middle. This adds to the bulk a little but I really actually enjoy it since it creates a physical barrier between the eyeshadow shades and blush/highlighters so there's no mixing.

Eyeshadows: I've always loved UD's eyeshadows; they're pigmented, soft, and easily blendable. These aren't too soft in the pan where it breaks apart when you stick your finger in to swatch it, but it's just the right texture so that it's still pigmented yet doesn't fall apart everywhere. The quality itself is amazing as always, but I did feel like there was lacking more matte transition shades in the palette. There are only two matte eyeshadows, and since I personally rely on them to deepen the crease, I had minimal options. I wish 180 (the deepest shade) should have been a matte formula to add into the crease or outer third of the eyelid to add more depth. When applied, there isn't any fallout onto the face which is a huge plus so there's no mess.

Blushes: Similarly, these blushes are so pigmented! You definitely have to go in with a light hand or else it's easy to overdo, making this a win if you want to save product. My go-to is DOUBLE TAKE since there's no shimmer wheras CHEAP SHOT does have more of a sheen-not chunky glitter but adds a touch of glow.

Highlighters: I personally like the look of cream/liquid highlighters the most, but surprisingly I ended up enjoying these decently paired with a setting spray. LOW KEY is a gold-peachier tone and I find that it wasn't as pigmented as the silvery-pink PARTY FOUL. These aren't chalky but do still look like a powder highlight when applied initially. As it melts into the skin more over time and especially if you use setting spray over it, it looks like a more natural-dewy glow as opposed to a noticeable powder highlight. This isn't the kind of highlights that will strobe, but I'm not really into that tbh anyway. In my opinion, the more skin-like it looks, the better!

Verdict:

This is very much worth the price if you like pinky tones. It's perfect for the springtime/summer looks so if you've been on the fence about it, I'd say it's worth it. Personally, this isn't a palette I'd gravitate toward (I love all matte palettes), so for me to spend $46 it wouldn't be worth it. But I'd assume if you were eyeing this you probably don't already have shades like these in your makeup collection and already like the shade range. Usually UD palettes are $54, but this is slightly cheaper and an easy all-in-one palette to take with you wherever you go.
