Glossier Body Hero Oil Daily Wash- Retail $18

Um, so just get ready for a lot of Glossier reviews coming your way OK? Years ago, I fell in love with L'occitane's award-winning almond shower oil (full size $25), but since it was so expensive, I never repurchased because in my mind I thought, "Of all things, body washes are probably the number one product that would be used up the fastest. Not worth". And understandably so since it's used every day, all over! Last year when Glossier came out with a slightly more affordable shower oil (plus I had Glossier credit), I purchased one, and since then my thoughts on this product has wavered back and forth till now...that I've almost used it all up.

Glossier developed this product out of inspiration from the facial double cleansing method, except that this would be for the body, and wouldn't need a second cleanser to remove any leftover oil.

Performance:

It's funny because initially, I absolutely hated the scent. Everyone on social media was raving about this neroli scent in particular, so I was very disappointed initially. Described by Glossier as a soft-baby fresh scent, instead it reminded me strongly of Coppertone sunscreen, and since the scent doesn't dissipate quickly, I immediately asked Glossier if I could return it (which, they actually refunded me and told me to keep it anyway. Great customer service!). Over time, I got used to it, and while I'm still not the biggest fan of it, I realized after testing out a neroli facial oil that I just don't like the scent of neroli in general.

Ok, so the only reason I kept using it was for the texture. This 7-blend oil wash is creamy and spreadable, very very similar to the L'occitane almond shower oil that I remembered using years ago as a sample. The oil is viscous enough that upon application on wet skin, you won't think "wait, this feels like water...did I apply this over my legs yet?" The best way I can describe it is that it's a viscous oil-like oil comforting formula, but does not at all leave a greasy feeling after rinsing it off. Since the oil wash emulsifies so well, you definitely won't need to follow-up with an additional cleanser-and that would defeat the purpose. I didn't necessarily notice any skin-softening or skin moisturizing effects, but I know for sure it didn't strip it dry. That's good enough for me.

Verdict

You know what, at the end of the day, I think it's worth it. If you asked me if it was months ago, I would have said the complete opposite. There aren't many oil body washes out there, but this formula is truly elegant, easy to use, and does its job. And honestly, even if you hate the scent like I did at first, it might grow on you a little more over time. If it doesn't, Glossier is generous enough to give you a refund just for not enjoying it. Win-win right?
