Benton Deep Green Tea Lotion-Retail $16

This product was sent to me by the brand for an honest review. I’ve liked most of what I’ve tried from Benton before this product, because they tend to be more affordable, natural, and made in small batches to preserve freshness. All opinions are my own. And of course as always, no sugarcoating. I’ll tell it to ya straight.

Performance:

This bottle is hard to squeeze and doesn’t have a great applicator for ease of use. Once squeezed out, the formula is a light lotion that is waterier in consistency but not gel-like. It smells lightly of green tea, and hydrates the skin quite well. I’m glad they even took the extra step to make sure this formula was mildly acid to match the skin’s naturally acidic environment. I will say that if you’re only going to use this after toning or cleansing regardless of skin type, this will not be enough for you. I have combo-oily skin and I layered this under a moisturizer for extra hydration while testing this, but didn’t love it. Green tea does help calm and balance out the skin, but since I didn’t have irritated or angry skin, the calming effect isn’t something that I can attest to. But if I did have angry skin, I wouldn’t reach for this. I’d probably look for something that is not only calming, but also would protect my skin barrier. And since this formula is so light and watery, I don’t see those with irritated skin going for this to heal/protect.

Overall this product is just alright, and in my opinion can’t compete with all the great lightweight moisturizers out there. Whether you’re a minimalist or maximalist with your skincare routine(s) I can’t see this being a staple in your skincare routine. And if you do finish up this bottle, how do you even get to all of it to prevent wasting? I really wish this was at least in a more flexible squeeze tube for convenience. Again, I have nothing necessarily against this product. It just can’t compare with others out there!

Verdict:

Nope. Even though I’m not sure how much this will be sold for, tbh I wouldn’t pick this up, even if it was $5 (I know, harsh.). This just cannot compete with the many, many products out there that can do better.

Love the Cosrx oil-free birch sap lotion! This comes in a pump, hydrates SO well and is very affordable.
